Delete your data

Last updated: June 20, 2026 · Privacy Policy · Grievance Officer

The short version. The e-Kirana Companion app is a paired companion for a shopkeeper's desktop POS. It stores its data on your phone, not on our servers. To delete that data: open the app, go to Settings → Delete app data, or simply uninstall the app. We do not maintain a server-side account for the Companion app, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

1. Which app is this page for?

This page covers data deletion for the e-Kirana Companion app — the payment-notification companion for shopkeepers on the e-Kirana point-of-sale platform.

For our other apps (e-Kirana Customer, e-Kirana Delivery) and for desktop-POS account / subscription deletion, see the Privacy Policy or contact support@ekirana.org.

2. What the e-Kirana Companion app stores

All app data is stored locally on your phone:

  • Your shop pairing (which desktop POS this phone is linked to)
  • An offline mirror of your shop's product catalogue, for fast barcode scanning
  • A short history of payments the app has heard, used to match against bills
  • Items you scanned offline and have not yet sent to the desktop
  • Your in-app preferences (voice language, auto-verify on/off, TTS on/off)

We deliberately do notupload the contents of your phone's notifications, your contacts, your other apps' data, or your location. The notification-listener permission is used only to detect UPI credit notifications so the app can announce them and confirm the matching bill on your desktop POS.

3. Delete everything from inside the app

  1. Open the e-Kirana Companion app on your phone.
  2. Tap Settings (gear icon).
  3. Scroll to the Account section.
  4. Tap 🗑️ Delete app data.
  5. Confirm by tapping Delete data.

The app will immediately wipe its local catalogue mirror, in-memory pending bucket, and your shop pairing. The app then returns to the QR-pair screen, as if it were freshly installed. Your in-app preferences (voice language, auto-verify on/off, TTS on/off) are kept on the phone so a re-pair starts with the same voice settings; uninstall the app (Section 4) to remove these as well. A small short-lived (≈48h) ledger of UPI credit identifiers is also kept on the phone purely as a safety dedup — to stop a notification still visible in the system shade from being counted twice if you re-pair to a different shop.

4. Or just uninstall the app

Uninstalling the app from your phone removes everything the app stored on it — there is nothing left behind on our side because we do not maintain a server-side account for this app. On Android: long-press the app icon → Uninstall, or go to Settings → Apps → e-Kirana Companion → Uninstall.

5. Deleting your desktop POS account / subscription

The desktop POS (the paid product the Companion app pairs with) is separate. It holds your shop's account, your active paid subscription, and your shop registration details on our infrastructure. To delete that account, including your subscription record, write to our Grievance Officer (see /grievance) or email support@ekirana.org with the subject line "Delete my desktop account".

Deleting the desktop account will end your paid subscription (refundable per our Refund Policyif you are within the eligible window) and remove your shop registration. Your phone's Companion app is independent and is not affected unless you also clear it as described above.

6. What we do not have to delete

For the e-Kirana Companion app specifically, we do not hold any of the following on our servers, so there is nothing to delete on our side:

  • The contents of your phone's notifications
  • Your UPI VPAs, bank account numbers, payment card numbers, or OTPs
  • Your call logs, SMS, contacts, photos, or microphone data
  • An advertising identifier or device fingerprint
  • A remote push token (the app does not register for remote push)

We may receive crash and performance diagnostics through Sentry, with our PII scrubbing applied. See section "Third-Party Services" in our Privacy Policy for details. To request deletion of diagnostic data Sentry holds about your install, email our Grievance Officer with the subject line "Privacy: Sentry erasure".
